Groundwater control for excavations in Cork, Ireland
Over the last 20 years the City of Cork, Ireland has seen significant private development of offices and retail space which include basements. Conventional geotechnical investigation strategies have proved poor at identifying the hydrogeological parameters which control inflow from the coarse sands and gravels which underlie the city. This short presentation will show how case study dated has been used to develop a conceptual model and provide a design bases for future projects.
Toby Roberts is an expert on the design and implementation of groundwater control systems for large excavations, foundations and tunnels with extensive contract experience in the Europe, Middle East and more recently Canada. Toby is a founder member and current Chairman of the international dewatering contractor WJ Groundwater. He co-authored CIRIA C750, the recently updated design guide for construction dewatering. Dr Toby Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers, a Charted Civil Engineer and Chartered Geologist.
