BGA Annual Conference 2021

13th Sep 2021 09:00 hours

Telford Lecture Theatre, Institution of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street, London, SW1P 3AA

Event Information

The BGA plans to hold its 2021 Annual Conference, including the AGM, on 13th September 2021. It is currently planned to hold this as a face-to-face event at the Institution of Civil Engineers (subject to the prevailing Government guidelines at the time).

Covid restrictions

The Institution of Civil Engineers are following the Government guidelines surrounding Covid-19 in order to make events as safe as possible.

Recommended safety measures when inside the building are:

  • Making use of the hand sanitizer available upon entering the building as well as in each of the meeting rooms.
  • Where possible wear a face mask when walking around the building, especially in confined areas such as toilets or lifts.
  • Check-in to the venue via the NHS Covid QR code. This is displayed at the entrance to the building on the reception desk.

The event will follow the same format as in previous years with several speakers on current projects and ongoing research. It will also include presentations from younger members of our profession, the Cooling Prize winner, and the winner of the BGA Masters Prize.

Rachel Skinner, the President of the ICE, will start the event by giving an introduction to net Carbon Agenda followed by a speaker from Network Rail giving their perspective on this important issue.

Lessons learnt from the COVID pandemic in terms of Health and Safety will also be covered and there will be a number of project updates. The projects featured will be related to offshore wind power and the modelling of Climate Change, particularly the effect on earthworks. There will also be updates on the Hinkley Point C project and HS2. In addition, there will be a talk on research related to foundations for overhead electrified line equipment.

As in previous years the work of CIRIA and the AGS will be featured. An update on the BGA’s work to establish a “Technologists” community will be highlighted.

The BGA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held after lunch. The BGA has engaged Civica (formerly known as Electoral Reform Services) to conduct online voting in respect of any resolution/approvals required at this year’s AGM. BGA members will shortly receive an email from regarding the call for nominations, etc.
