The next Meeting of Teachers of Geotechnical Subjects (MTGS) is going to be held in Edinburgh on the 1st and 2nd of September, 2016. This meeting follows on from successful meeting series in Belfast (2010) and Sheffield (2012).

MTGS is a two-day informal meeting and an excellent opportunity to meet, discuss and share experiences and best practices with colleagues from the UK and beyond. We aim to have discussion sessions, presentations, posters, a keynote lecture (to be confirmed) and anything else you can name that may be pedagogically useful. In recent years numerous young researchers have joined various institutions as lecturers and teachers of geotechnical subject across the UK. We will strongly encourage their participation on this event.

We will be creating an e-mail list and discussion group prior to the conference where further information regarding costs, registration, accommodation, programme, etc. We would appreciate if you can disseminate this announcement amongst your colleagues and register your interest by e-mail to d.barreto@napier.ac.uk

We aim to encourage discussion related to the following topics (but not limited to them):

  • Links between teaching and research
  • Nature and extent of industrial involvement in academic programmes, modules and courses
  • Recent development in teaching (including laboratory, classroom and online practice)
  • The impact of internationalisation on academics and students
