Preparing for ICE Professional Review - Avoiding ‘geotechnical failures’

The BGA Early Career Group are pleased to invite you to March’s event. The talk will provide practical guidance for geotechnical engineers on how to approach the Professional Review and interpret the ICE guidelines into the geotechnical field. If you are considering sitting for your Professional Review in the near future, this event will be a unique opportunity to get insight from two very experienced and well-accomplished geotechnical engineers, who are currently ICE Reviewers. David Beadman will talk about how to achieve different attributes and demonstrate competence at the Professional Review. Peter Rutty will present some tips and advice on how to avoid potential pitfalls at the Professional Review and will also provide advice on RoGEP professional qualifications.

Geotechnical engineering in the coastal environment: Case Studies from Central Felixstowe and Clacton on Sea

Two coastal management schemes at Central Felixstowe and Clacton-on-Sea have safeguarded over 4,500 properties from erosion risks in the next 100 years. Both Schemes provided interesting interaction between the coastal management approaches and coastal cliffs with associated London Clay platforms under the beaches. Amenity and regeneration benefits in both communities have been a key driver for the Schemes, and successful outcomes are already tangible. Mott MacDonald developed a pro-active cliff management strategy for both schemes, that addressed both high priority stability remediation, and longer term sustainable management of the coastal cliff assets whilst also improving their social and economic value. The cliff management strategy was underpinned by understanding of the geomorphology, engineering geology and geotechnics of the cliffs.
