Fleming Award Finalists Announced

This year’s Fleming Award evening will be held on the 11th December 2013 at the Institution of Civil Engineers from 6pm. The competition is held annually to commemorate the life and work of Dr Ken Fleming and to recognise excellence in the practical application of geotechnics in a project or a part of a project. This year both the number and standard of entries received was very high and after much deliberation the shortlisting committee has selected the following finalists:

• Danube Bridge 2, “Vidin-Calafat” between Bulgaria and Romani (High Point Rendel and Ingerop JV, URS, Flint & Neill and Iberinsa JV, FCC Construccion S.A.)
• Lee Tunnel, Abbey Mills, Stratford – Shaft F (MVB JV, AECOM, CH2M HIL, Bachy Soletanche, UNPS and Cambridge University)
• Collaborative Value Engineering: Propping the Crossrail Tottenham Court Road Western Ticket Hall (Crossrail, Arup-Atkins JV, URS , BFK JV, Kier Engineering & Dam Structures)

All the finalists will present their projects before the judges retire to deliberate. During this time the audience will hear a special lecture from David Norbury. The Fleming Award will then be presented to the Project Team which most demonstrates excellence in geotechnical design & construction, with an emphasis on teamwork across the different disciplines involved in the project.
