Membership of the BGA includes an annual subscription to Ground Engineering. That used to mean just receiving the print issue of the magazine but the website – www.geplus.co.uk – contains daily news updates, exclusive online features and access to every technical paper ever published in Ground Engineering, as well as more in-depth versions of features and news that appeared in the print edition.

Nominations for BGA Committee Requested

Nominations are invited for three vacancies on the Committee. These should be supported by at least three members of the Association and sent together with the written consent of the candidate to the Secretary by 12 noon on 11 April 2016. A short CV or personal statement of about 1/3 of one A4 page (~300 words) should be sent with the nomination. If a ballot is required, this note will be included with the ballot paper.

RoGEP News

Congratulations to all those who have Registered with RoGEP as it is clear RoGEP has led the way in Europe on this subject. Professional registration will be discussed at a Workshop in Leuven on 25 & 26 April 2016, as one of the main items in the agenda of the meeting of the European Member Societies in Edinburgh (2015) was the registration of Ground Engineering Professionals from a European perspective. The workshop will be held immediately before the forthcoming International Symposium on "Design of Piles in Europe. How did Eurocode 7 change daily practice?" organized by ETC3-Piles. RoGEP’s Chairman, Jim Cook, will be attending.

Helen Dunne Wins Cooling Prize

The final of the 47th Cooling Prize competition was last Thursday evening hosted by the ICE Wales Cymru Ground Engineering Group and the BGA at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.‎ Following an introduction to the history of the competition by Christine Cooling, the three finalists, Paul Sargent, Aidan Hopkins and Helen Dunne, gave presentations that addressed subjects which provide insight into new technologies and applications for geotechnical engineering that can be of practical significance. All three gave well-structured presentations that expanded on the understanding of the material included in their previously submitted papers. This was reflected in a high level of engagement with the audience who addressed all three with questions allowing them to demonstrate their breadth of knowledge around the subject matter.

Eduardo Alonso to be 57th Rankine Lecture
